3.21 Scholarship Application

OUR MISSION: to provide financial assistance for postsecondary education or training programs for people who have had their lives forever changed for the better by a friend or family member with Down syndrome.

Got an amazing brother or sister that changed the way you see the world? An extra special friend that set you on your career path?? Well then, we have a scholarship for you! Simply submit a short story explaining how your life has been forever changed for the better by a friend or family member with Down syndrome. The deadline to apply is Sunday, October 29th. Winners will be announced October 31st!

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and enrolled in a postsecondary school or training program.
  2. Applicants must reside in East Baton Rouge, West Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, West Feliciana, Ascension, Livingston, Iberville, Pointe Coupee, or St. Helena Parish.
  3. Applicants can submit only one essay and receive one award.
  4. Applicants must submit their essays by 11:59 PM (CST), October 29, 2023.
  5. Current officers and board members of DSAG-Baton Rouge, along with their immediate family members, are ineligible.
  6. Prior 3.21 Scholarship recipients are *not* excluded from eligibility and may apply.

Application Procedure

Complete the form below to submit a short story explaining how your life has been positively affected by someone with Down syndrome and if you were to win, how the scholarship funds will be used.

Essays should be 500 words or less and as creative as possible.

Winners will be announced on October 31, 2023.

Submission Evaluation

Submissions will be evaluated based on the following categories:

  1. The applicant’s ability to clearly and creatively express positive experiences in their life due to having a family member or friend with Down syndrome.
  2. Use of scholarship funds, with special consideration given to students enrolled in programs committed to the betterment of individuals with special needs.

Scholarships

  1. A $1,000 scholarship for first place and a $500 scholarship for second place will be awarded.
  2. Scholarship funds must be used to pay for tuition to a postsecondary school or training program.
